Dry Eyes can be a source of chronic and constant discomfort. Our tear film consists of three layers: 
mucin layer, water layer and oily layer. Any imbalance of any of the three layers results in dry eye.
Dry eye is a disease caused by one or a combination of these things:
- Inflammation. Just like how inflammation throughout the body affects normal function, inflammation around the eyelids causes our body to poorly regulate the quality of our tears.
- Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (clogged oil glands). Meibomian glands are special glands found in our upper and lower eyelids. Its’ job is to produce and express oils onto our tear film. The oil floats on top of our tear film and protect it from drying out too quickly.
What are the common symptoms of dry eye?
Signs of dry eyes include blurriness, sensitivity to light, irritation, eye fatigue, contact lens intolerance, scratchy or gritty feeling, excessive tearing/watering, and red eyes.
How is dry eye treated?
Conventional approaches include prescription medications, lid massages, warm compresses, manual expression of blocked ducts, artificial tears, and surgical intervention.
Envision is a newer technology that uses radio frequency and intense pulse light to safely and effectively treat dry eye. Envision treatment is a non-invasive and non-surgical office-based treatment. There is little to no discomfort and no downtime.
Forma – I is RF (radio frequency).
Forma – I uses heat energy that is safely delivered to the clogged oil glands in our eyelids.
Forma – I is very relaxing, it feels like a hot stone massage on the eyelids! During treatment, heat energy breaks down clogged oil glands and surrounding collagen.
After treatment, the glands work more efficiently in producing and releasing oil. Also collagen is regenerated resulting in tightening of the skin.
Lumecca – I is IPL (intense pulse light)
Lumecca – I uses a safe and specific wavelength of light that addresses inflammation and brown pigment spots. As a result, redness from inflammation and brown spots on the skin will slowly fade. As a result of reduced/eliminated inflammation, our eyes can begin to regulate production of tears.
Another side effect patients may notice is the lightening of brown spots.
